In
1834 when Texas was part of Mexico,
several hundred small farmers, mostly
from Co. Wexford emigrated to South
Texas as part of a planned settlement.
Thomas O'Connor, a lad of sixteen
put together a farm of 750,000 acres
before he died. Descendants of the
original settlers still live in the
area, and with Texas oil lying underneath
their land, they are not short of
the good things in life.
