in Africa. About 30 miles northeast of Kitale
is the road which begins the dangerous descent
into the Suk Valley, one of the most remote
and primitive regions in all Africa. In 1956
a young Irish priest settled at a place called
Ortum - he was the first European ever to
live in the Suk Valley and he found a people
who were completely untouched by western influences.
Three Irish holy Rosary Sisters joined him
and now Ortum has a church, a fine hospital,
and a boarding school for boys and girls.
This film shows the colourful life of the
Pokot tribe and includes unique scenes of
a cattle auction and a traditional dance.
It also examines the work of the Irish missionaries
in the Suk Valley. |
